Bring a natural aspect to your enclosures with driftwood decor!

This freshwater driftwood is untreated and free of chemicals, and is safe for use in your terrariums and aquariums!

It is highly suggested to wash and heat sterilize your wood before use. This can be achieved by rinsing it with water and then placing the piece in the oven at 200°F for 15-30 minutes. Always actively monitor this process and never leave wood unattended in the oven.

How to use

Terrarium use:

Once washed and sterilized, you can safely place the wood directly into your enclosure however you like! Suitable for all conditions from arid to tropical!

Aquarium use:

Once washed and sterilized, the wood will likely float on the surface and need to be soaked fully submerged for weeks or even months before it sinks. This can be done in a separate vessel of water or soaked directly in the tank. It can be helpful to use decor or rocks to hold the wood under the surface during this process. Boiling the wood before placing it in the tank may speed up this process.

Even after being washed, driftwood may release tannins into the water giving it a brown tint known as “blackwater”. These tannins are beneficial for your fish as they have antibacterial properties! These tannins can continue to be released for months or even years in some cases.

If the colour tint is unsightly to you, it is recommended to boil the wood multiple times and soak it in a separate vessel of water for a period of time. This process can take months or even years to completely clear up the water. If put directly in the tank, you may need to do more frequent water changes to remove the tint over time.
