Sphagnum moss is a very popular pot-topper for carnivorous plants and thrives under the same care! It is also great for ground cover in humid terrariums!

How to plant your live sphagnum moss:

Sphagnum moss does not have roots and does not require soil to grow, however we find it tends to do better with a growing medium!

Our recommended method is to shred/chop up the moss and spread it evenly over the soil, it will grow into a beautiful topper for your planters! You may also simply split it up into clumps and place it into your planters as-is!

Humidity

Sphagnum moss thrives with lots of moisture! If choosing to grow on substrate, it should be ensured the pot is always sitting in water and never allowed to dry out. 

In low humidity environments the moss may begin to dry out and brown, so it is beneficial to keep it in a humid greenhouse/terrarium to prevent this.

Watering

Sphagnum moss is sensitive to minerals and fertilizers, and does best when watered with distilled or rain water. Sphagnum moss should be constantly moist and can be watered via heavy misting, moist substrate, or soaking.

Lighting

Sphagnum moss prefers indirect light/partial shade. Direct sun may burn the plant causing the tips to brown.
